Ideogram is a generative media platform from Ideogram, Inc., built around its own text-to-image models. A text-to-image model is a neural network that turns a written description, the prompt, into a picture. The Ideogram 4.0 and 4.5 models aim at close prompt following, readable text inside images and reliable editing.
Ideogram 4 is the company's first open-weight model: 9.3 billion parameters, trained from scratch, with quantized weights (stored with fewer bits per number to save memory) on Hugging Face and inference code on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. It takes a structured JSON prompt with bounding-box layout and color-palette controls and produces native 2K images. Ideogram also offers a web workspace with apps such as background and object removal, one API that reaches its own and other labs' image and video models, and an MCP connection for AI agents.
The weights are free for research and personal projects under a non-commercial agreement. Commercial self-hosting needs a monthly license with an image allowance, or an Enterprise license for customer-facing products. The hosted app is sold as subscriptions, the API per request.
