Runway

An AI company that makes video generation models such as Gen-4.5 and sells them in a web app for creators and through an API for developers.

What Runway is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Runway is an AI company that builds generative models for video, images and audio. A video generation model turns a text prompt, an image or another video into a new video clip. Runway's models include the Gen-4.5 video model and GWM-1, a general world model. It has offices in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, London, Paris, Tel Aviv and Tokyo.

Runway offers three platforms built on the same models. Runway Creative is a cloud-based workspace where people generate and edit video, images and audio, with Runway's models and with models from other labs such as Kling and Seedance, plus 4K upscaling and voice and music generation. Runway Dev is an API: a program sends a generation task with a prompt and input media, using the Node or Python SDK, and receives the finished file. Runway Robotics uses the world model to test robot control policies in photorealistic simulation and to generate synthetic training data.

Runway Creative is a subscription that includes monthly credits, with a free plan of 125 one-time credits. The API is pay per use: each model costs a set number of credits per second of video.
