Bolt

An AI app builder: a person describes a website or web app in a chat, and AI agents write, test and host the code.

What Bolt is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Bolt (bolt.new) is an AI app builder made by StackBlitz. In an AI app builder, a person describes the wanted product in plain language, and an AI coding agent, a language model that writes and changes code by itself, produces working software. Bolt builds websites and apps such as marketing sites, online stores, dashboards and internal tools, and also slide presentations.

The person types a prompt in the browser and can first talk through the plan in Plan Mode. Bolt then writes the code, tests it and fixes errors, and it picks the language model for each task to balance quality and cost. A project can also start from a Figma design or a GitHub repository. Bolt Cloud adds hosting with custom domains, databases and user authentication, so a project can go live without other accounts.

Bolt is a hosted service with a free plan that has daily limits and paid monthly subscriptions. Usage is counted in tokens, small pieces of text that a language model reads or writes; larger projects use more tokens per message.
