DEV Community

A free blogging and discussion site for software developers at dev.to, where members publish articles, tag them by topic and comment on each other's posts.

What DEV Community is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

DEV Community, at dev.to, is a blogging and discussion site for software developers. It is led by Ben Halpern, Jess Lee and Peter Frank, the co-founders of Forem, and it has joined forces with Major League Hacking (MLH), a platform of developer programs.

Members publish articles under their own name or under an organization account and tag them by topic, such as #ai, #webdev or #python. Readers follow authors, react to posts and comment on them, and the home feed sorts posts as relevant, latest or top. The site also runs coding challenges with prizes, offers video and education tracks, and sells advertising. In October 2026 its home page counted more than 4.1 million members.

DEV is built on Forem, open-source community software written in Ruby on Rails, which anyone can use to run a similar community. Creating an account and posting are free.
