Meta ads

The paid advertising system of Facebook and Instagram: a business pays to show its ads to people selected by age, place, interests, or past behavior.

What Meta ads is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Meta ads is the advertising system of Meta, the company behind Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. A business pays to show ads to people while they use these apps, for example in the Facebook Feed, between Instagram Reels or in the Messenger inbox.

Ads are created in Meta Ads Manager, which is linked to a Facebook Page or an Instagram business profile. The advertiser chooses an objective (sales, leads, engagement, traffic, awareness or app installs), an audience defined by age, gender, location and interests, the placements (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Audience Network, or all of them), a budget, and a format: photo, video or slideshow. Each published ad competes with other ads aimed at the same audience in an ad auction, and Meta's system decides who sees it. Ads Manager then reports results such as impressions, engagement and purchases.

There is no fixed price. The advertiser sets a daily budget (an average amount per day) or a lifetime budget for the whole campaign. Meta may spend up to 75% more than the daily budget on one day, but not more than seven times the daily budget in a week.
