Facebook is a social network made by Meta: people create profiles, connect with others, and share posts and videos that appear in a personal Feed chosen by recommendation algorithms. Other parts of the app include Video, Search, Marketplace for buying and selling, and Groups.
A Facebook group is a community around one interest. Members post questions, share firsthand experience and comment on each other's posts. Public groups can be found and read by people who have not joined them. Each group is run by admins and moderators, who approve member requests and pending posts against the group rules that they set; Admin Assist can apply such rules automatically, and all posts must follow Meta's Community Standards. In 2026 Meta began to test Forum, a separate app for Facebook Groups in the USA, with AI tools that find past answers in groups and help admins review posts.
Facebook is free to join and to post on. Meta One is an optional paid subscription with extra features.
