GeneratePress

A lightweight WordPress theme with add-on blocks: a business builds its whole website, including header, footer and page templates, inside the WordPress editor.

What GeneratePress is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

GeneratePress is a WordPress theme made by EDGE22 Studios Ltd. A theme is the package that controls how a WordPress site looks (layout, typography, colors) separately from its content. GeneratePress describes itself as lightweight and reports more than 11 million downloads on WordPress.org.

Pages are built from blocks in the WordPress editor: Container, Grid, Headline, Text, Button, Image, Shape and Query blocks. A block's look can be saved as a global style, and colors, sizes and spacing can be set once as design tokens that update every page. The paid parts add a theme builder for headers, footers and post and archive templates, more than 80 starter sites to import, dynamic content that pulls post fields and ACF custom fields into layouts, WooCommerce layouts, Google Fonts hosted on the site itself, and forms and popups.

The theme itself is free. The paid bundle, GeneratePress One (GP Premium, GenerateBlocks Pro and GenerateCloud, a shared pattern library), is a yearly subscription priced by number of sites, with a lifetime option.
