Hermes Agent is an open-source AI agent made by Nous Research. An AI agent is a program in which a language model plans steps and calls tools (a browser, a terminal, scripts) to finish a task, instead of only answering a message.
The agent runs on the user's own computer or server, or as a hosted agent in the cloud, and connects to a model provider chosen by the user. It is reached through Hermes Desktop for macOS and Windows, a terminal interface, or a messaging gateway for Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal and email. It stores conversations, memories and self-created skills (saved procedures) between sessions, so it reuses how it solved a problem before. It can run scheduled jobs described in plain language, start isolated subagents with their own terminals, search the web and drive a browser, and run commands in sandboxes: local, Docker, SSH, Singularity or Modal.
Hermes Agent is free under the MIT license. Model providers and optional hosted services, such as model credits from Nous Portal, are billed separately.
