Mac mini

Apple's small desktop computer: a five-inch-square Mac with Apple silicon, often used as an always-on machine for development and local AI models.

What Mac mini is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Mac mini is a small desktop computer made by Apple. It measures five by five inches, runs macOS and drives external displays. It is designed around Apple silicon, Apple's own chips, with unified memory, a single pool of memory that the CPU and the GPU share.

The current models use the M6 chip (12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, a dual 16-core Neural Engine, up to 32GB of unified memory) or the M5 Pro chip (up to 18-core CPU, 20-core GPU, up to 64GB). A Neural Accelerator in each GPU core speeds up AI models that run on the device, and Apple names apps such as LM Studio for running local language models and AI agents. Ports include USB-C, Thunderbolt, HDMI, 2.5Gb Ethernet and a headphone jack, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. On the M5 Pro model, Thunderbolt 5 connects several Mac mini computers into a cluster that runs larger local AI models.

Mac mini is bought outright or in monthly installments; the price depends on the chip, memory and storage chosen.
