Microsoft Store

Microsoft's app store for Windows: developers publish apps and games after certification, and Windows users find, buy, install and update them.

What Microsoft Store is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Microsoft Store is Microsoft's app store for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Windows users find, buy, install and update apps and games there. Microsoft states that the Store supports 240 regions and 110 languages.

A developer opens an individual or a company developer account in Partner Center; an individual verifies their identity with a government-issued ID and a selfie. The developer reserves an app name and submits a package: MSIX (the modern Windows app package format), a classic MSI or EXE installer, or a PWA (progressive web app, a website that installs like an app). Microsoft certifies each submission before release. For apps distributed through the Store, Microsoft hosts the files, signs the code, delivers updates through Windows, processes payments worldwide, and supplies in-app purchases, analytics, beta testing and age ratings. Submissions and updates can be scripted with the Microsoft Store Developer CLI, a submission API or GitHub Actions.

In the new onboarding flow there is no registration fee for either account type. The pages read do not state the share that Microsoft keeps from paid sales.
