OpenAlternative

A website that lists open-source alternatives to proprietary software, where each open-source project gets a listing page with a link to its site.

What OpenAlternative is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

OpenAlternative is a directory website made by Piotr Kulpinski: a community-driven list of open-source alternatives to proprietary software and applications. Open-source software publishes its source code under a license that lets anyone read, change and share it. Each listing names the proprietary products that the tool can replace, such as Google Analytics or Auth0.

Visitors browse by category, collection, tag, license or tech stack, or look for self-hosted and AI-native tools. Each entry shows repository data such as stars, the last commit and the license. The ranking uses a health score built from stars and forks, project age and recent commits, with a 5% bonus for listings that the project's own team has verified. Repositories on GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg, Bitbucket and Gitee are supported.

The site sells advertising and takes part in affiliate programs. It reports about 220,000 visitors a month. Ad plans rotate across the whole site and are billed monthly or yearly.
