Pinterest

A visual search and shopping platform: people discover and save ideas and products as images, and businesses use free business accounts to reach them.

What Pinterest is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Pinterest is a visual search and shopping platform made by Pinterest, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco. People come to it to discover ideas, such as recipes, home and style ideas, and to find products, and they save the images (Pins) they like. The company reports 640 million monthly active users and 1.5 billion Pins saved every week. It is available on iOS, on Android and on the web at pinterest.com.

What each person sees comes from Pinterest Intelligence, which combines visual understanding and AI with signals such as searches, saves, Boards (collections of Pins) and clicks. A company can open a free business account, or convert a personal account, which adds analytics, audience insights and ads to a normal profile. Ad formats include image ads, idea ads and video, and shopping features place a brand's products inside the platform.

Using Pinterest and opening a business account are free. Advertising is optional, and the advertiser sets its own budget.
