Semrush

An online SEO and marketing research platform: it shows which keywords people search for, which sites rank for them and how a site can gain search traffic.

What Semrush is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Semrush is an online platform for search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing research, made by Semrush Holdings. SEO is the work of making a site's pages appear higher in search results. Semrush now also measures how often a brand appears in answers from AI chat tools.

Its keyword research tools draw on a database of 29 billion keywords. Competitor analysis and backlink analysis show the rankings, traffic potential and backlinks (links from other sites) of a domain; the backlink database holds 43 trillion links. Position Tracking checks a site's ranking for chosen keywords every day, and Site Audit runs technical audits of a site. AI Visibility tools track prompts and report how AI answers mention and cite a brand. Data covers 142 geographic databases, and it is also available through an API and an MCP server for AI assistants.

Semrush is a hosted web service sold as a monthly or annual subscription, with a free account limited to 10 reports a day.
