Twitch

A live streaming platform: creators broadcast video live to viewers who chat with them, and earn money from subscriptions, Bits and ads.

What Twitch is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Twitch is an interactive livestreaming service run by Twitch Interactive, Inc. Creators stream video games, music, sports, talk shows, food and drink, travel and other content, and viewers watch live and chat with the creator and with each other in the same channel.

To go live from a PC, a streamer creates an account, sets up broadcasting software such as OBS (Open Broadcaster Software, which captures the screen, camera and microphone and sends the video stream to Twitch), adds a title, category and tags in the Creator Dashboard, and starts the stream. Streams can also come from a phone, a PlayStation or an Xbox. Developers can build Extensions, custom tools that run on a channel for its community.

Twitch is a platform, not software that a business buys. Monetized creators earn from viewer subscriptions, from Bits, a virtual good that viewers buy and use to Cheer in chat, from ads during streams and from sponsorships. Brands can also buy advertising on Twitch.
