Vercel Chatbot

An open-source chatbot app template from Vercel: a ready Next.js chat interface with login, saved history and AI model access that developers copy and change.

What Vercel Chatbot is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Chatbot, formerly called AI Chatbot, is an open-source template made by Vercel: a complete chat application that a developer copies and changes instead of writing a chat interface from scratch. It is built with Next.js (a React framework for web applications) and Vercel's AI SDK.

The template already contains the chat screen, streaming answers, file and image attachments, sign-in with email and password, and sharing of chats. Chat history and user data are saved in a Neon Serverless Postgres database, and files in Vercel Blob. Models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI and other providers are reached through the Vercel AI Gateway, and the AI SDK can switch to a direct provider with a few lines of code. Custom artifacts can be added for specific workflows, and code snippets can run in the browser. A developer deploys a copy to Vercel with one click or runs it locally.

The code is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0; the hosting, database and model use are paid separately.
