Algolia

A hosted search service: a business sends its content to Algolia's servers and adds a search box with AI-ranked results to its website or app.

What Algolia is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Algolia is a hosted search and retrieval platform from Algolia. A business sends its data, such as products, articles or help pages, to Algolia as records in an index (a data structure built so that queries return matches quickly). Its website or app then sends each search query to Algolia's API and shows the ranked results. A crawler can also read a website's HTML pages and index them automatically.

Algolia offers keyword search, product recommendations, personalization, A/B testing and search analytics. UI libraries supply ready-made search boxes and result lists. AI features include AI ranking, NeuralSearch, Ask AI, which gives conversational answers in the search bar, Generative Experiences for conversational answers built with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation: the system first retrieves relevant records and then has a language model answer from them), and Agent Studio for building AI agents. The service runs in 70+ data centers across 17 regions.

Algolia is a hosted service billed pay as used: each plan includes a monthly number of search requests and records, and usage above that is charged per thousand.
