Chakra UI

An open-source React component library: ready-made, accessible interface parts such as buttons, menus, tabs and sliders for building web applications.

What Chakra UI is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Chakra UI is a component library for React, the JavaScript library for building user interfaces. A component library gives ready-made parts of an interface (buttons, menus, tabs, sliders, dialogs), so that developers assemble screens instead of writing each part from zero. Segun Adebayo created it; it is a project of Chakra Systems, maintained with contributors.

Developers install the @chakra-ui/react package with npm and wrap their application in its provider component. The components follow accessibility practices, such as keyboard focus styles, and include dark mode. A design system can be built on top of it: semantic tokens hold shared design values such as colors and fonts, text styles set typography in one place, and recipes define the visual variants of a component. A command-line tool copies pre-built snippets into the project. Chakra UI works with frameworks such as Next.js and Vite.

Chakra UI is free and open source under the MIT license. Chakra Pro, a separate paid product from the same team, sells premade components and page templates.
