A managed video platform: it stores, encodes and delivers on-demand and live video for websites and apps through one API, on Cloudflare's network.

What Cloudflare Stream is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Cloudflare Stream is a managed video platform from Cloudflare, Inc. It uploads, stores, encodes and delivers on-demand and live video through one API (an interface that another program calls over the internet), so the developer runs no video servers.

A program uploads a file through the API, from a link, or through a one-time upload URL that lets end users upload directly. Stream encodes each video with the H.264 codec into adaptive bitrate streams from 360p to 1080p; adaptive bitrate means that the player switches between quality levels as the viewer's connection changes. Video goes out over Cloudflare's network as HLS or DASH, two standard formats for streaming video over HTTP, to the built-in Stream Player or to another player. Live video comes in over RTMP or SRT. Signed URLs restrict access to paid content, and analytics show which videos are watched.

Stream is a hosted, pay-per-use service. It bills on two measures only: minutes of video stored and minutes of video delivered. Uploading and encoding are free.
