eBay

An online marketplace where people and businesses list items for sale by auction or at a fixed price, and eBay takes a fee on each sale.

What eBay is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

eBay is an online marketplace, a website where independent sellers list items and buyers search, bid on or buy them. It is run by eBay Inc. Items range from electronics, clothing and collectibles to cars and motor parts.

A seller creates a listing with photos, a price, item specifics and a format, auction-style or fixed price; eBay's AI tools can help write the listing description. When the item sells, eBay charges the seller a final value fee and no separate payment processing fee. Sellers manage listings and orders in Seller Hub, can open an eBay Store, and can sell to buyers in more than 200 countries. Seller Hub also contains Product Research, a free tool that shows recent price trends and real sales data for millions of items, so a seller can decide what to sell and at what price.

Listing is free up to a monthly allowance; after that eBay charges a fee per listing, and it charges a percentage fee on every sale.
