GIPHY is a search engine and content library for GIFs (short looping animations), animated stickers and Clips, which are GIFs with sound. GIPHY, Inc. runs it. The content comes from thousands of artists and hundreds of content partners, and people reach it on the GIPHY website and inside messaging and social apps such as iMessage, Instagram and TikTok.
A person types a word or phrase and gets matching GIFs, or browses a Trending feed that changes every day. Developers add the same library to an app or website through the GIPHY SDK or the REST API. The Search and Trending endpoints return each GIF in several renditions, files of different sizes and formats such as MP4 and WebP, so an app can show a small preview first and a larger file after a click. Content is searchable in over thirty languages and carries content ratings for safe search.
Each API key starts as a rate-limited beta key; a production key needs an application, after which GIPHY discusses pricing by email. Apps that use the API must show a "Powered By GIPHY" mark.
