Gemini Notebook is Google's AI research and learning assistant. It was called NotebookLM until 16 July 2026, when Google renamed it; it stays a standalone product but also works inside the Gemini app and Google Search. Google introduced it at Google I/O 2023 as Project Tailwind and says more than 30 million people and over 600,000 organizations use it.
A user creates a notebook and adds sources: Google Docs and Slides, PDFs, text and Markdown files, web addresses, pasted text, public YouTube videos and audio files, each up to 500,000 words or 200 MB. The assistant answers questions from these sources with citations for checking, and turns them into summaries, mind maps and Audio Overviews, spoken summaries of the material. From July 2026 Google began giving each notebook a secure cloud computer, so the assistant can write and run code to analyze data in the sources. Notebooks sync with the Gemini app. Google says it never trains models on uploaded data.
It is a hosted service for personal Google accounts and Google Workspace accounts; qualifying Workspace plans get higher limits and more features. The pages read state no price.
