Inngest

A durable execution platform that runs an app's background jobs and multi-step workflows, with automatic retries, queuing and scheduling, as a cloud service or self-hosted.

What Inngest is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Inngest is a durable execution platform from Inngest Inc. Durable execution means that a multi-step job records the result of each step, so after a crash or error it continues from the failed step instead of starting again. Inngest replaces the queues, state storage and schedulers that an app would otherwise run for its background jobs, workflows and AI agents.

A developer writes functions in the app's own code with the TypeScript, Python or Go SDK, wraps the parts in steps, and names the event or cron schedule that triggers each function. Inngest calls the functions over HTTPS when events arrive, runs each step, saves its result and retries failures. Flow control sets concurrency, throughput and fairness across tenants, steps can wait for events or pause, and traces show every run. Newer features run code in isolated microVMs called Sandboxes and score outcomes for A/B tests.

The SDKs are open source under Apache 2.0, and the server is available under the Server Side Public License and can be self-hosted. Inngest Cloud is a subscription with a free plan and higher-limit paid plans.
