ipapi

An IP geolocation API: a website or program sends an IP address and receives its country, city, time zone, currency and network owner as JSON.

What ipapi is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

ipapi (ipapi.co) is an IP geolocation API, a web service that estimates where a device is from its IP address, the number that identifies it on the internet. It is owned and operated by Kloudend, Inc., a company incorporated in Delaware, USA; the service started in 2016.

A program sends an HTTPS request such as ipapi.co/8.8.8.8/json/ and receives a JSON record with the city, region, country code, postal code, latitude and longitude, time zone, calling code, currency, languages, ASN (the number of the network that announces the address) and the organization. A single field, for example only the country, can be requested as plain text. The site states that latitude and longitude are often near the center of a population area and are not precise enough to find a household. Each lookup is counted, and repeat queries for the same address count again. Bulk lookup and IPv6 support are also listed.

It is a hosted service sold as a subscription with monthly or annual billing, priced by the number of lookups a month. A free trial plan of up to 1,000 lookups a day is meant for testing, not production.
