Medium

An online publishing platform: anyone can write and publish articles, called stories, and Medium helps each story find readers, including through shared publications.

What Medium is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Medium is an online publishing platform, a website where people write articles and other people read them, made by Medium. Its about page calls it a home for human stories and ideas, where anyone can share knowledge without first building a mailing list or a following. It states that over 100 million people use Medium every month, among them software developers, product designers and CEOs.

A writer publishes a story under a personal profile or inside a publication, a shared space where several writers and editors work together. Medium helps each story find the right readers, so a new writer can reach an audience without existing followers. Some stories are member-only. Members read without limits or ads, listen to audio narrations, read offline in the Medium app, create their own publications and connect a custom domain to their profile.

Publishing is open to anyone. Medium does not sell ads or user data; it is paid for by over a million members who buy a monthly or yearly membership, and part of each membership goes to the writers whose stories the member reads.
