Notion API

Notion's REST API, through which other programs read and write pages, databases, comments and users in a Notion workspace.

What Notion API is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

The Notion API is the REST API of Notion, the workspace app for notes, documents and databases made by Notion Labs, Inc. A REST API is an interface that other programs call over HTTPS to read and change data. Through it a program can read, create and update nearly everything in a workspace: pages, databases, users, comments and files.

A program works through a connection, also called an integration. Internal connections belong to one workspace and use a static token. Public connections, for apps used by many Notion users, sign users in with OAuth 2.0, and each user picks which pages the app may see. Personal access tokens let a script act as one user. Connections can subscribe to webhooks, which push events such as page updates and new comments, so they do not have to poll. Notion also offers a JavaScript SDK and an MCP server for AI agents.

The API is part of Notion and has no separate price on the downloaded pages. Its rate limit depends on the workspace plan: 600 requests per minute on Business and Enterprise plans, 180 on all other plans.
