Perenual

A plant database with a REST API: an app searches more than 10,000 plant species and gets back care data, images, hardiness zones and disease information.

What Perenual is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Perenual is a botanical database offered as a REST API, an interface that other programs call over HTTP with a key and receive answers in JSON. It is built for developers, farmers and botanists who make plant, gardening and agriculture apps, and lists more than 10,000 plant species.

A program calls the species list endpoint with an API key and optional filters, such as a name query, edible, poisonous, indoor, life cycle, watering, sunlight or hardiness zone (a climate band from 1 to 13 that says where a plant survives the winter). Each species record has common and scientific names, genus, images with their licenses, and care details; other endpoints return care guides, a plant FAQ, a pest and disease list, and plant identification. The website also shows the same data as a public plant database.

Perenual is a hosted service. A free personal plan allows 100 requests a day with limited data; paid monthly or yearly plans raise the daily limit, open the full species data and allow commercial use.
