Transloadit is a hosted file processing service. An application sends files to it through one API, an interface that a program calls over the internet, and Transloadit uploads, converts, analyzes, stores and delivers them, so the team does not run that file pipeline itself.
A job is described in a Template made of Steps. Each Step uses a Robot, a unit that does one task, such as /image/resize or /video/encode. One API call starts an Assembly, a run of the Template, and the Steps run in parallel: one uploaded video can give thumbnails, several MP4 and WebM encodings and subtitles from speech transcription. Uploads are resumable with the tus protocol and the open-source Uppy uploader. Files can come from and go to storage that the customer controls, such as Amazon S3, and processing runs in the United States, Europe or Asia Pacific.
Transloadit is sold as monthly plans. Each plan includes a number of gigabytes (GB) of processing per month, counted mostly from input plus output file sizes, and usage above it is billed per GB. A free Community plan exists with watermarked images and trimmed audio and video.
