Vimeo

A video hosting platform: a business uploads videos and embeds Vimeo's ad-free player on its website, with privacy, review and live streaming tools.

What Vimeo is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Vimeo is a video hosting platform made by Vimeo.com, Inc. Video hosting means storing video files on the provider's servers and streaming them to viewers, so a website does not serve large video files itself.

A user uploads a video to Vimeo and shares a link or embeds Vimeo's customizable player in a web page; the player shows the video in high resolution without ads or suggestions of other videos. Privacy settings include password protection and unlisted links. Teams review cuts with time-coded comments and keep version history in a shared library. Other tools cover live streaming, webinars, selling videos on demand or by subscription, analytics of viewer engagement, AI translation of audio and captions, and an API for developers.

It is a hosted service. Anyone can share unlimited public videos for free; paid plans are subscriptions per seat, billed monthly or yearly, and Vimeo Enterprise is sold through sales.
