Google AdSense

Google's advertising program for publishers: it places ads from Google's advertisers on a website and pays the site owner a share of the ad revenue.

What Google AdSense is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Google AdSense is Google's ad network for publishers, the owners of websites, blogs and games who sell space on their pages to advertisers. AdSense fills that space with ads that advertisers buy through Google Ads and other buying platforms.

The site owner signs up with a Google Account, verifies a phone number and a postal address, and pastes one line of AdSense code into the site. AdSense then chooses ads that match the page content or the visitor, and advertisers bid for each ad space; Google AI places and tunes the ads to raise earnings. The owner controls the position, frequency and type of ads and can block unwanted ones. Formats include banner ads inside the page, Multiplex ads in a grid, anchor and side-rail ads that stay at the screen edge, full-screen vignette ads between page loads, and related search ads.

AdSense pays per ad click or per ad impression, depending on the ad type. The pricing model is a revenue share: the advertiser's buying platform and AdSense each keep part of the ad revenue, and the publisher receives the rest.
