Gumroad

An e-commerce platform for digital products: a creator uploads an e-book, course or software, sets a price, and Gumroad hosts the file, takes payment and handles sales tax.

What Gumroad is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Gumroad is an e-commerce platform made by Gumroad, Inc. on which creators sell digital products directly to their customers: e-books, courses, video lessons, software and memberships. Gumroad hosts the files, takes the payment and delivers the purchase.

A seller uploads a file, sets a price and gets a product page. A page editor builds a storefront, or the seller embeds Gumroad's checkout in an existing website or links the store under a custom domain. Prices can be one-time, recurring (monthly, quarterly, yearly) or a price the buyer chooses, in many currencies. Gumroad can generate license keys for software, offer several file versions such as PDF and ePub, and add light copy protection (DRM). Sellers see sales analytics and can email their followers. Since January 2025 Gumroad is the merchant of record, the party that legally makes the sale, so it collects and pays sales tax and VAT worldwide. Discover, Gumroad's marketplace, shows products to new buyers.

Gumroad has no monthly fee; it takes a commission on each sale, higher when the buyer came through Discover. The source code of its web application is public on GitHub under the MIT license.
