Netlify is a platform for building, deploying and hosting websites and web apps. A project is deployed from a Git repository on every push, from the command line or by drag and drop, and is served from a global CDN (content delivery network: servers in many places that send files from near each visitor). Every pull request gets a preview URL before the change goes live, and any deploy can be rolled back in one click.
Besides static files, Netlify runs serverless functions that act as API endpoints, and Edge Functions written in TypeScript or JavaScript. Edge Functions run in a Deno-based runtime at the network location closest to each user and change requests and responses there, for example to localize content by geolocation, set headers, redirect visitors or run A/B tests with cookies. The platform also offers a database, file storage, built-in identity for logins, an AI Gateway to AI models and automatic HTTPS.
Netlify is a hosted service with a free plan and monthly subscriptions. Usage, such as deploys, compute, bandwidth and web requests, is counted in credits, and each plan includes a monthly number of credits.
