Paystack

A payment gateway for African businesses: it accepts card, bank and mobile money payments, runs recurring subscription billing, and settles the money into the business's bank account.

What Paystack is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Paystack is a payment gateway, a service that accepts payments for a business and pays the money out to the business's bank account. It serves businesses in Africa, with offices in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, and its site says it is a Stripe company used by over 200,000 businesses.

Customers can pay by card, bank account, bank transfer, USSD (codes dialled on a basic phone), Apple Pay, Google Pay and mobile money. Through Paystack's API (an interface that another program calls over the internet) a developer collects one-time and recurring payments, makes transfers and verifies customers' identities. For subscriptions, the merchant creates a plan with a name, an amount and an interval from hourly to annually; Paystack then charges each subscriber automatically and sends webhook events (messages to the merchant's server) for each charge. A dashboard shows reports, and automated and manual fraud checks screen transactions.

Paystack is a hosted service. Integration is free and there is no maintenance fee; it charges a percentage fee on each transaction and settles funds on the next working day.
