Stripe Managed Payments

A merchant of record service from Stripe: Stripe becomes the legal seller of a business's digital products and handles sales tax, fraud, disputes and buyer support.

What Stripe Managed Payments is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Stripe Managed Payments is Stripe's merchant of record solution for businesses that sell digital products and software subscriptions. A merchant of record is the company that legally sells to the buyer and is responsible for the sales tax, fraud and chargebacks on each sale. With Managed Payments, Stripe, through its consumer platform Link, takes that role for the transactions it covers.

The business sells through Stripe Checkout, payment links or Stripe Billing, for one-time or subscription purchases. Managed Payments calculates, collects and remits sales tax, VAT and GST in more than 80 countries, blocks fraudulent payments, answers disputes (chargebacks) for the business, and pays out the money. Buyers see Link at checkout and on receipts; in a Link account they manage orders and subscriptions, update payment methods and reach 24/7 multilingual support. Checkout is localized in more than 30 languages, and Adaptive Pricing shows prices in local currency. A business can turn Managed Payments on for all sales or only for chosen markets, products or transactions.

It is billed per transaction, on top of Stripe's standard processing fees, with no setup fee or monthly minimum.
