Trigger.dev is an open-source platform for durable background jobs, workflows and AI agents written in TypeScript. Durable means that a job survives failures: it is retried, and it keeps its state across crashes and new deployments.
A developer writes tasks, functions that can run for a long time, in a trigger folder of the project; the code is bundled and deployed to Trigger.dev's managed workers. The application then starts a task, or a schedule (cron) starts it. Runs have no maximum duration and no timeouts. The platform provides queues that limit how many tasks run at once, retries, idempotency (a repeated request does not run the same work twice), and alerts by email, Slack or webhooks when a task fails. Its Realtime API shows the status of a run in the application and streams LLM responses to users. Each deploy is an atomic version, so started tasks are not affected by new code.
The code is open source under the Apache 2.0 license and can be self-hosted. The hosted cloud has a free plan and monthly plans, plus pay-per-use charges for each second of compute and each run.
