The plugin directory is OpenAI's catalog of plugins for ChatGPT and for Codex, OpenAI's AI tool for software engineering; both products use one universal directory. A plugin bundles reusable workflows: skills (written instructions for a kind of task), connected apps that link ChatGPT to an outside service such as Slack, and MCP servers (programs that give an AI assistant tools and data through the Model Context Protocol).
Users open Plugins in the ChatGPT sidebar on the web, desktop or mobile, browse categories such as Popular and New & Noteworthy, read a plugin's description, skills, apps and setup needs, and select Install plugin. Installation may start a sign-in to the outside service, and it cannot bypass the provider's or the workspace's permissions. ChatGPT then uses installed plugins when relevant, or a user calls one with an @ mention. Some plugins carry an OpenAI Verified badge after an OpenAI review. Plugins marked Desktop only need the ChatGPT desktop app.
OpenAI runs the directory. It is available on all ChatGPT plans; what a user can install depends on the plan, workspace, role and region. The pages state no listing fee.
