Hotjar

A website behavior analytics tool, now part of Contentsquare: it shows heatmaps, session replays and survey answers that reveal how visitors use each page.

What Hotjar is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Hotjar was a product experience insights tool for websites and apps, and it is now part of Contentsquare, an experience analytics company. The Hotjar address now leads to a Contentsquare page. New Hotjar accounts can no longer be created; new users sign up for Contentsquare, which includes the Hotjar features.

The tool captures how visitors interact with a website and shows it in several views. Heatmaps show where visitors click, move the pointer and scroll on a page, and attention maps measure engagement beyond clicks. Session replay plays back one visitor's session, with the moments of difficulty and the errors. Surveys and user interviews collect feedback directly from visitors. Contentsquare adds error and performance monitoring, funnels that show at which step of a sequence of pages users leave, AI summaries of heatmaps and recordings, and an MCP connection that lets AI assistants such as ChatGPT or Claude query the data.

It is a hosted service. The free plan captures up to 200,000 sessions a month; paid plans are subscriptions, billed monthly or yearly, priced by the number of sessions.
