An open-source customer support platform: a website chat widget, e-mail and messaging apps feed one shared inbox, with an AI agent that answers routine questions.

What Chatwoot is

Written from its maker's own pages, read on 28 October 2026.

Chatwoot is a customer support platform made by Chatwoot Inc, offered as open-source software and as a hosted cloud service. It presents itself as an alternative to Intercom and Zendesk.

Chatwoot is an omnichannel inbox: conversations from a live chat widget on the company's website, e-mail (Gmail, Outlook or any IMAP/SMTP server), WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, SMS and other channels arrive in one queue, where support agents answer them. The chat widget takes the company's colors, logo and text. Agents use private notes, labels, canned responses and automation rules, and a help center publishes articles and FAQs. Captain, the AI part, learns from the help center, PDFs and website, answers routine questions by itself and hands a conversation to a person when needed; Copilot drafts replies for agents. An API and webhooks connect Chatwoot to other software.

The code is released under the MIT License and can run on the company's own servers. Chatwoot Cloud is a subscription priced per agent per month, with a free plan for up to two agents.
