Akamai Cloud, formerly Linode, is a public cloud computing platform from Akamai Technologies. It rents virtual machines (VMs), storage and databases in Akamai's data centers. Akamai's documentation still calls a compute instance a Linode.
A customer creates VMs with Shared CPU, Dedicated CPU, High Memory or GPU plans in a chosen data center, through the Cloud Manager web console, the API or the command-line tool (CLI). Other services are Linode Kubernetes Engine (LKE), a managed version of Kubernetes, the system that runs containers across many machines; block storage, object storage and backups; managed MySQL and PostgreSQL databases; and networking with cloud firewalls, DNS Manager and NodeBalancers, load balancers that spread traffic over several VMs. Akamai Inference runs open-weight AI models without customer-managed GPUs.
Akamai Cloud is a hosted service paid per use: each service has an hourly rate, rounded up to the nearest hour, with a monthly invoice. New customers can receive promotional credit.
