Vercel AI Gateway is a model gateway made by Vercel. A gateway here is a proxy service that sits between an application and the AI model providers: the application sends every request to one API with one key, and the gateway forwards it to the chosen model. It offers more than 400 models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, open-source models and others, for text, images, video and audio.
Applications call it through Vercel's open-source AI SDK or through endpoints compatible with the OpenAI and Anthropic APIs, so an existing integration moves by changing the base URL. The gateway can route requests by availability, cost or latency; if a provider degrades, it fails over to the same model on another provider. Billing and usage monitoring for all models are in one place. A team can limit requests to providers with zero data retention (no prompts stored or used for training) and can bring its own provider keys.
It is a hosted, pay-per-use service. Tokens cost the provider's list price with no markup or platform fee, paid from prepaid credits; a free tier gives a small monthly credit for a subset of models.
